The Public Inquiry into Native Forest Logging is enquiring into logging operations and practices within Australian native forests covered under the various Regional Forest Agreements (RFAs). The purpose of the Inquiry is to investigate these practices and to make findings and recommendations. Members of the public, organizations and individuals are invited to make written comments, and submissions to the Public Inquiry into Native Forest Logging in Australia.All aspects of current and historical native forest logging practices are being inquired into. The objective of the Inquiry is to assess whether effective conservation and management outcomes are being met. All submissions will be considered in confidence. Responses may be of any length, and may be handwritten or typed. Return addressed replies will receive a copy of the Interim Report. Interim Report released The interim report was released to the public on Friday the 24th of April 2009. The Public Inquiry The inquiry has been commissioned to examine all aspects of the industry, including climate change implications, economics and impacts on wildlife and water. It will draw upon the significant expertise within Australia on forestry matters and place Australian policy in an international context. Public engagement Members of the public are strongly urged to take part in this very topical investigation on the various issues relating to the Review. Where appropriate, the Review will also be seeking submissions on specialist subject areas as the investigation proceeds. We look forward to making a positive contribution to this important area of Australia’s economic and environmental future in dialogue with the Australian community and international experts in this area.
